    Good mood
    I'm in a rather good mood this morning. I had a nice, quiet night with stephaniebcl, and I don't have a headache for a change. I expected the drive in to be horrible because of the Super Bowl, but it wound up not being that bad at all.

    Unfortunately work is getting stressful, so I hope my good mood can hold out the rest of the day.

    "Should The Times Be a Truth Vigilante?"
    Should newspapers actually insist on facts, instead of fake-balance, "Scientists claim the world is round, but skeptics insist it's flat," BS? Is this really a question?

    New Year's Resolutions
    I don't usually make New Year's Resolutions, but since I have things I want to work on anyway, I might as make them thematic goals.

    * Balance time more effectively
    * Be more organized
    * Consume fewer calories/day
    * Drink less Coke
    * Exercise more regularly
    * Focus less time on those who aren't that interested in me
    * Handle correspondence/pay bills in a more timely manner
    * Have more game nights/run more role-playing games
    * Journal more consistently
    * Read Dune
    * Work on my discipline/dominance/rope skills

    Big Bang Theory
    We were just discussing The Big Bang Theory at work, and one of my co-workers asked if [livejournal.com profile] icespark, an aerospace engineer, had a favorite character on the show, and if it was Sheldon, most people's favorites. I told him I didn't know who was her favorite (although Wolowitz has the closest job to hers), but that it probably wasn't Sheldon, who had this to say about her chosen profession:

    "Engineering - this is where the semi-skilled workers realize the work of better minds. Hello, Oompah-Loompahs of science."

    I was sooo amused at how insulted and comically annoyed Icespark was by that line on the show. It makes me laugh even now.

    Lego Makes “Friends” Line For Girls [Toys]
    Considering the following:

    http://nerdapproved.com/toys/lego-makes-friends-line-for-the-girls-toys/

    They tested it with actual girls, and are going with what real girls better identify, so I don't see as much of a problem. I understand about enjoying toys with personalities better - that's why I like G.I. Joe and Transformers above all other toys, and why I like Jem over Barbie.

    Being a feminist to me doesn't mean pretending boys and girls are exactly the same -- if this encourages more girl to play with imagination-building toys like Legos, then I approve.

    IC Post: Cobra Commander - Worldwide Transmission
    Cobra Commander appears in a live broadcast. Sitting behind a broad desk in a small room dominated by a large Cobra flag, Cobra Commander seems to be trying to sound friendly instead of sinister, although the effect seems more like an oily car salesman than a true benefactor.

    “Citizens of the world… I am Cobra Commander. As many of you have heard, Cobra has recently vanquished the evil Decepticons, and saved our planet from further destruction and flooding. We are negotiating with Trans-Carpathia to use their technology to repair the climate even as Cobra’s biologists begin restoring lost species to the wild.

    “Where many of your governments have failed, Cobra will provide. We are prepared to deliver food, personnel, and supplies to help rebuild areas destroyed by flooding. Cobra Unity’s generosity and resources will be used to restore our world to its rightful glory. Never again will we allow the Decepticons to create such havoc across the world.

    “It is a new dawn, and we will lead the way. Cobra!”

    The transmission ends with a shot of the Cobra flag blowing in the breeze against a green field on a sunny day.

    2011.12.05 Weekend
    [livejournal.com profile] stephaniebcl and I had a very nice weekend, even though both of us got very, very sick. The weekend got off to an early start Thursday, when Nesh invited us to her house for a late poly family Thanksgiving dinner. The food was yummy, and StephanieBCl and I very much enjoyed hanging out with Nesh, her husband, her boyfriend, her girlfriend, her girlfriend’s husband, and her kids.

    I started to feel sick after dinner. At first I thought it was something I ate (an allergic reation, not something wrong with Nesh’s food), but when I still was feeling terrible the next day I went to the doctor, who determined that I’d caught a stomach flu. Since I felt so bad I took that day and the next off work, and StephanieBCl took care of me. I couldn’t do much, so we snuggled up as best I could and watched Buffy when I was awake.

    By Saturday night I was starting to feel better, and since the doctor said I was no longer contagious, StephanieBCl and I went to the Indy Poly Meetup Holiday Party at [livejournal.com profile] lildomino and [livejournal.com profile] hotarugirl's. There were a ton of people from out of town there, and I was especially happy to see Behu, who lives in Chicago. I also got to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] pandara, who was there with her new lover. I enjoyed myself muchly and had a great time.

    By Sunday StephanieBCl had started to get sick, so it was my turn to take care of her. We skipped our plans to go to the circus and spend the night with Lildomino, and instead stayed in and watched more Buffy. I felt bad because I was obviously the one who got StephanieBCl sick, but I was glad at least that I was free to take care of her. Even though we spent the weekend sick, it was good to have quiet much needed-time together.

    Excellent!
    From The Huffington Post - 'Bill & Ted 3' Movie Script Finished: Alex Winter Tweets Update

    "When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn't happened," he told MTV about the third film's plot. "So they've now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there's an element of time and they have to go back."

    Why You Shouldn't Donate to the Salvation Army Bell Ringers
    "As the holidays approach, the Salvation Army bell ringers are out in front of stores dunning shoppers for donations. If you care about gay rights, you'll skip their bucket in favor of a charity that doesn't actively discriminate against the LGBT community."

    IC Post: General Hawk – Antarctic Assault
    To: G.I. Joe Command
    From: Lieutenant General Clayton “Hawk” Abernathy
    Subject: Antarctica

    Scarlett’s discovery of a second Decepticon installation in Antarctica is troubling at best. The Decepticons are dangerous enough an enemy without having to split our forces. However, there are advantages. The existing landmass at the South Pole will allow us to deploy our ground forces to better effect than the completely submerged North Pole. We have access to burrowing equipment we can use to get at the Decepticons as well.

    Once again the Autobots have agreed to assist us in this matter. As of now, all ground forces not committed to the Flagg will be transferred to the Ark – both equipment and personnel. Scarlett will handle exceptions, but in general all Army forces will be participating in the Antarctic assault from the Ark, while Air Force, Marines and Navy will attach the North Pole from the Flagg once in position.

    These will be difficult, but not impossible missions. The stakes are great, but our allies are powerful and just as committed as we are to save our planet. Even Cobra forces are in with us 100% in this, and for the duration of this mission I demand each be afforded the courtesy and respect we would grant allies from any other affiliated country. Admiral Keel-Haul will be taking command of the northern mission while I transfer to the Ark.

    Hairbangers Ball
    I had such a good time last night at the Hairbangers Ball show with Trmo. The only thing that could have made it better was if Jero had joined us. Trmo got a lot of awesome pictures, and overall we had a great time rockin' out to 80s hair metal cover band goodness. This morning I'm enjoying listening to my girlfriends talk about their wonderful dates last night. It's a good start to the weekend. =)
