    Nice weekend
I met Stephanie's best friend's new boyfriend on Friday and together we all played duckpin bowling. Then Saturday we drove to Chicago to see our friends Erika and Jon, and Sunday had brunch with them and our friends Heather and Sheldon. =D

    Poly life
This is one of those weeks where it's nice being poly. Ke is sick, so my other girlfriend Stsm made her a get-well gift basket in a Darth Vader lunchbox. Then Behu joined us for our date, and I got to spend time with both her and Ke (and Behu's best friend, and Ke's wife Mira, and Mira's date for the night). Even tho Ke is very sick, it was still a very nice night.

    “non-primary” partners
    Interesting article on polyamory terminology:

Non-primary relationship. An intimate (romantic/sexual) relationship that by mutual agreement does not have the traditional relationship escalator role or goal of becoming primary life partners (married or equivalent) who share a household. These relationships can be monogamous, polyamorous, or otherwise. Non-primary relationships can be very long-term and significant, or not.

8 Companies That Don't Support Gay Rights

    From Huffington Post:

You'd think in 2013, with DOMA having been found unconstitutional, people would step into the present and accept the future. That future being, of course, that, and you're going to want to sit down for this revelation: gay men and women are people, too! Seriously.

In the wake of Barilla's head honcho, Guido Barilla's homophobic and sexist remarks, a boycott followed, and we were once again forced to realize that some people just refuse to see everyone as equal.

"I would never do [a commercial] with a homosexual family, not for lack of respect, but because we don't agree with them," the company chairman told Italian radio Wednesday evening. "Ours is a classic family where the woman plays a fundamental role.

However, Barilla isn't the first company to express homophobic sentiments, and sadly, they probably won't be the last either. The United States Department of Labor may have ruled that all businesses in every state must provide benefit coverage for same-sex marriages, but that doesn't mean it's going to put an end to homophobia.

Here are 8 companies that prove this to be true.

    Halloween 2013
For Halloween 2013, we're introducing 4 dystopian worlds (and 1 bonus world), each ruled by a different faction. Befitting a Halloween TP, things on these worlds are a little bit darker, with the Bots and Joes a little more oppressive, and the Cons and Cobras unrestrained by the actions of heroes. We'll try to run a scene in a different world every week of October, but as each world is introduced and linked from the Gates to ICness, there is nothing stopping people from popping in and establishing their characters in each world. Unlike the Shattered Glass universe, these universes are NOT a mirror -- players will play their same characters, just shaped by different circumstances. As such, aside from a few TP characters, most people won't need separate logins for their What If? characters - simply bring your regular characters over to the What If? worlds and start roleplaying!

The Real Reason You Should Care About the Petraeus Affair: Privacy
    From Mother Jones -

CIA Director David Petraeus, one of the most lauded military leaders of his generation, resigned last week after an FBI investigation into email harassment uncovered evidence of his affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell. Here's why you should care: If the director of the CIA can't keep his private life secret from the FBI, you can't either.

Why You Shouldn't Donate to the Salvation Army Bell Ringers
    From bilerico.com --

As the holidays approach, the Salvation Army bell ringers are out in front of stores dunning shoppers for donations. If you care about gay rights, you'll skip their bucket in favor of a charity that doesn't actively discriminate against the LGBT community.

The Salvation Army has a history of active discrimination against gays and lesbians. While you might think you're helping the hungry and homeless by dropping a few dollars in the bright red buckets, not everyone can share in the donations. Many LGBT people are rejected by the evangelical church charity because they're "sexually impure."

    Morning in America
    By Michael Moore:

This country has truly changed, and I believe there will be no going back. Hate lost yesterday. That is amazing in and of itself. And all the women who were elected last night! A total rebuke of Neanderthal attitudes.

Now the real work begins. Millions of us – the majority – must come together to insist that President Obama and the Democrats stand up and fight for the things we sent them there to do. Mr. President, do not listen to the pundits who today call for you to "compromise." No. You already tried that. It didn't work. You can compromise later if you need to, but please, no more beginning by compromising. And if the Republican House doesn't want to play ball, do a massive end run around them with one executive order after another – just like they have done and will do if given the chance again.

We have to have Obama's back. As he is blocked and attacked by the Right, we need to be there with him. We are the majority. Let's act like it.

And please Mr. President, make the banks and Wall Street pay. You're the boss, not them. Lead the fight to get money out of politics – the spending on this election is shameful and dangerous. Don't wait til 2014 to bring the troops home – bring 'em home now. Stop the drone strikes on civilians. End the senseless war on drugs. Act like a pit bull when it comes to climate change – ignore the nuts, and fix this now. Take the profit motive out of things that any civilized country would say, "this is for the common good." Make higher educational affordable for everyone and don't send 22-year-olds out into the world already in massive debt. Order a moratorium on home foreclosures and evictions. Enact economic policy that will create good-paying jobs and spend the money that's needed to do that. Make your second term one for the history books.

Can We Talk About Why We Really Love Princess Leia?
Yes, yes - a thousand times yes!

    From Tor.com:

"We learn, of course, that Leia is also one of the key members of the Rebel Alliance, a leading voice at the core of the insurrection. Knowing that the Empire has been in place her entire life, and that Bail Organa was fighting it from the beginning, one can easily infer that Leia’s life has been anything but balls and servants and tiara-wearing. She was raised in a household of politicians who were working to overthrow an imposed dictatorship. I doubt she had classes in curtsying, but she definitely had to be taught how to hold up under interrogation, conduct her affairs in secret, and keep her cover stories in check."

    Tammy Duckworth

Rep. Joe Walsh, one of the most extreme Tea Partiers in Congress, said this week that abortion is never medically necessary to save a woman’s life. Seriously?!

Walsh’s opponent, Tammy Duckworth, is exactly the kind of strong advocate for women’s health that we need in Congress to fight back against outrageous, ill-informed beliefs like this one.

I just gave to Tammy Duckworth Money Bomb.

Romney's abortion rewrite edits out 'dear, close family relative'
    From Daily Kos:

One week after Mitt Romney comically claimed "There's no legislation with regards to abortion that I'm familiar with that would become part of my agenda," the Romney campaign began airing a new ad whitewashing his past positions and his party's extremist present on the issue. After all, Romney's latest cynical play for women voters doesn't merely omit his call for new Supreme Justices to overturn Roe v. Wade, his past willingness to sign a federal abortion ban in its wake, his backing for the Blunt Amendment and ending Title X spending for women's health care that would limit access to contraception or his current support for state "personhood" initiatives and "fetal pain" bills. As it turns out, Mitt Romney's "binder full of women" no longer includes Ann Keenan, the "dear, close family relative" whose death from an illegal abortion 50 years ago once inspired his now abandoned pro-choice politics.
